As the Stanley Cup Playoffs are underway, the National Hockey League has commenced the process of unveiling the finalists for its key awards for the 2024-25 season.
On Monday, the league revealed the three finalists for the Vezina Trophy, an award presented to the top goaltender. The nominated players are Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets, Darcy Kuemper representing the Los Angeles Kings, and Andrei Vasilevskiy from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Hellebuyck, who received the Vezina Trophy last season, posted an impressive 47-12-3 record across 63 games for the Presidents` Trophy-winning Jets. His statistics included a 2.01 goals-against average, a .925 save percentage, and eight shutouts. He led the NHL in wins, GAA, and shutouts, while ranking second in save percentage, just behind Anthony Stolarz of the Toronto Maple Leafs (.926).
Should Hellebuyck win the Vezina again this season, he would become only the fourth goaltender in league history to win the award in consecutive years, joining the distinguished company of Martin Brodeur, Dominik Hasek, and Patrick Roy. Brodeur was the last netminder to accomplish this feat, doing so in 2007 and 2008 as a member of the New Jersey Devils.
The finalists for the remaining NHL Awards are scheduled to be announced daily through the middle of May. The official 2025 NHL Awards ceremony is set to take place in June 2025, though a specific date has not yet been finalized.
