Thursday night saw two exciting Game 2 matchups in the second round of the 2025 NHL playoffs. The Washington Capitals secured a crucial 3-1 victory to even their series against the Carolina Hurricanes, while the Edmonton Oilers won a thrilling overtime game in Vegas to take a 2-0 series lead.
In the Capitals-Hurricanes game, Washington bounced back strongly after being outplayed in Game 1. Tom Wilson was a standout player, contributing with his physical presence, an assist on the winning goal, and sealing the game with an empty-netter. Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson was also solid, making 27 saves on 28 shots and handling the shots he faced effectively.
Out West, the game between the Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights went into overtime after Jack Eichel led a comeback for Vegas, assisting on their first three goals and driving their offense. However, Connor McDavid ultimately made the winning play in overtime, securing the victory for Edmonton and giving them a commanding 2-0 lead as the series heads north.
