Conor McGregor has strongly indicated that he will not be retiring from fighting.
The Irishman recently suggested his fighting career might be ending, stating he was happy with his Hall of Fame achievements.
Conor McGregor hasn`t fought in the octagon for almost four years.
He recently hinted that his days as a fighter could be ending soon.
But the 36-year-old has made a significant U-turn.
However, less than two weeks after suggesting retirement was near, the former two-division UFC champion has changed his mind.
On Thursday afternoon, he posted a video on Instagram showing him training with pads, visible to his 46.7 million followers.
His caption included a message for lightweight contenders Michael Chandler and Paddy Pimblett.
He wrote: “I`m interested in the Chandler/Pimblett fight this weekend.”
Chandler and Pimblett are scheduled to compete early Sunday morning at UFC 314 in Miami.
Chandler was originally expected to be McGregor`s opponent for his return last June, but the fight was cancelled due to McGregor`s broken toe.
Chandler remains hopeful for a fight with McGregor, and Pimblett is also interested in such a matchup.
Pimblett commented during the UFC 314 pre-fight press conference: “Yeah, I saw it, obviously. I got sent it by a good few people.”
“You know, I’d welcome that fight, that’s where the money’s at.
“But, I can’t look past Michael.
“I’ve got to fight Michael on Saturday night and get the win here, that’s all that matters.”
Chandler responded to McGregor`s post: “I don’t know. I’m sure he’s watching.
“He watches and he’s very interested in coming back.
“But can he put together a training camp? That’s the real question. We don’t know.
“All I know is you can see by my actions, fighting Charles Oliveira in November and now fighting five months later, Paddy Pimblett.
Conor McGregor has set his sights on fighting either Michael Chandler or Paddy Pimblett.
“Putting my ranking on the line, going out to brave the unknown, I’m going to stay active.”
McGregor has not entered the octagon since his leg injury in a fight with Dustin Poirier nearly four years ago.
If he fights again, it will be his first time since being found liable in a civil case for assaulting Nikita Hand in a Dublin hotel in December 2018.
The former champion is appealing the court verdict, hoping new evidence will reverse the civil trial`s outcome.
