Croatia Stops Hungary’s Winning Streak, While Czechia, Italy, and Poland Remain Unbeaten

Friday brought significant outcomes at the CEV U16 Volleyball European Championship 2025. In Pool II, Croatia delivered one of the most surprising results by sweeping previously undefeated Hungary with a dominant 3-0 victory (25-13, 25-14, 25-20) at the Palace of Youth and Sports in Prishtina. This performance ended Hungary`s perfect run.

Croatia team celebrating victory against Hungary

Croatia secured a surprising win against previously undefeated Hungary in Prishtina.

After an initial loss to Czechia and a subsequent win over Slovenia, Croatia showed increased confidence. They controlled the match against Hungary from start to finish, handing them their first defeat of the tournament. Hungary, who had shown resilience in earlier matches, struggled against Croatia`s strong service and strategic attacks. The first two sets were decisive (25-13, 25-14), and although Hungary contested the third more strongly, Croatia maintained composure to close it out 25-20. This victory marks Croatia`s second consecutive win and positions them as a strong contender in Pool II. Hungary will need to recover from this setback.

Also in Pool II, Czechia maintained their perfect status, remaining the sole unbeaten team in the group with a flawless 3-0 win over host nation Kosovo (25-11, 25-12, 25-16). The Czech squad displayed technical excellence and teamwork, controlling the tempo throughout the match.

The Czech Republic is the only team still undefeated in Pool II.

In Pool I, Italy continued their strong form, maintaining a perfect 3-0 win-loss record after defeating France in four sets. Poland also stayed undefeated, mirroring Italy`s success later in the evening by crushing Bulgaria in three straight sets.

Other results in Pool II included Greece`s confident 3-0 victory over Montenegro (25-19, 25-20, 25-17). Greece has bounced back impressively after their opening loss to Türkiye, securing their second straight-sets win. Montenegro appeared to lack rhythm in this match. Türkiye also returned to winning ways, defeating Slovenia in straight sets (25-18, 26-24, 25-16) after a tough five-set loss previously. Slovenia is still seeking their first win after a third consecutive defeat.

All participating teams will have a rest day on Saturday. Competition resumes on Sunday with crucial matches in Pool II that will influence the standings and the race for semi-final qualification spots.
