Edmonton Oilers Achieve Historic Comeback in Stanley Cup Final

Top Story: The Edmonton Oilers

They say records are meant to be broken. Leon Draisaitl and the Oilers did just that, breaking multiple records in a single game to potentially save their season. Draisaitl scored the game-winner, propelling Edmonton to a 5-4 overtime victory over the Panthers in Game 4. The series is now tied 2-2.

  • Matthew Tkachuk scored two power-play goals in the first period, and Anton Lundell added another to give Florida a 3-0 lead. Edmonton appeared disorganized, committing penalties and struggling offensively.
  • Edmonton replaced goaltender Stuart Skinner with Calvin Pickard, which seemed to shift the momentum. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (on a power play), Darnell Nurse (from a sharp angle), and Vasily Podkolzin (in front of the net) scored to tie the game.
  • Jake Walman put the Oilers ahead 4-3 in the third period, but Sam Reinhart tied the game with just 19.5 seconds remaining after a frantic sequence. It was the second-latest game-tying goal in Stanley Cup Final history, surpassed only by Corey Perry`s in Game 2.
  • Florida dominated possession for much of overtime, but Pickard made crucial saves. Ultimately, Draisaitl received a cross-ice pass and scored with a one-handed shot that deflected off Niko Mikkola and went through Sergei Bobrovsky`s legs.

This win marked a historic comeback. Teams trailing by three or more goals after the first period were 0-37 in Stanley Cup Final history before this game. It also tied the largest road comeback in Stanley Cup Final history with the 1919 Canadiens. Furthermore, Draisaitl`s four overtime goals are the most by any player in a single postseason.

Wow, what a game and what a series!

NBA Finals: Experts Re-evaluate Picks

At CBS Sports, we believe in accountability, even when revisiting predictions that haven`t panned out. Before the NBA Finals began, all six of our experts picked the Thunder to defeat the Pacers. Two predicted a five-game series (no longer possible), and three predicted six games (which would require Oklahoma City to win three straight, something Indiana hasn`t allowed opponents to do this postseason).

Following Indiana taking a 2-1 lead, we asked our experts to re-make their predictions. James Herbert and Colin Ward-Henninger maintained their original picks.

Ward-Henninger stated, “Thunder in 7. (Original pick: Thunder in 7.) I should feel proud that I originally predicted a long series, but now I actually feel nervous about sticking with the Thunder. Ultimately I`m banking on OKC`s substantial home-court advantage (just eight home losses in the regular and postseason combined) to carry them to a Game 7 win. That being said, they`re going to have to win one game in Indiana, and there are already signs that the Pacers are starting to wear OKC down — which could become more glaring as the series progresses.”

Despite the Pacers leading 2-1, only one expert flipped their prediction from Oklahoma City to Indiana.

Odds still favor Oklahoma City to win the series and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to win MVP. However, if Bennedict Mathurin continues his strong performance and Caitlin Clark remains a good luck charm for Indiana, a historic upset could be on the horizon.

Arrest Warrant Issued for Antonio Brown

Authorities in Miami-Dade County, Florida, are seeking to arrest former NFL star Antonio Brown on a charge of attempted murder with a firearm.

  • This stems from an alleged fight involving Brown and others at a boxing event in mid-May. Brown was briefly detained by police at the time but not arrested.
  • Brown claimed on social media that he was attacked by individuals attempting to steal his jewelry.
  • Police have obtained video footage reportedly showing Brown punching a man, appearing to take a security guard`s gun, and firing two shots at the man he had punched.
  • The victim informed investigators that Brown shot at him twice, possibly grazing his neck.
  • The arrest warrant includes a requirement for Brown to post a $10,000 bond and remain under house arrest.

This situation is currently developing.

College World Series: Preview and Predictions

Welcome to Omaha! The College World Series begins today, with eight teams representing six different conferences (Oregon State is an independent) competing for the final national championship of the academic year.

SEC powerhouses Arkansas and LSU have the lowest odds, but there`s also a Cinderella story in Murray State. Notably, for the first time since 1957, none of this year`s College World Series teams were in Omaha last year.

Despite the lack of repeat participants, there`s plenty of star power. LSU ace Kade Anderson is highly ranked among the most important players at the CWS and a top prospect for the 2025 MLB Draft.

Can he lead the Tigers to a title? Carter Bahn`s prediction is in:

Bahn`s Pick: Arkansas. Bahn notes, “Elite talent abounds on a roster that looked like the deepest and most balanced in the country all season. SEC Player of the Year Wehiwa Aloy is a superstar yet boasts just the third-best batting average on the team. Six lineup regulars hit .320 or better. The bullpen complements an accomplished starting rotation tremendously and is the primary force behind a stellar 3.91 team ERA. There are hardly any holes for a celebrated program seeking its first CWS title.”

Club World Cup Preview: Stars and Teams

The Club World Cup begins tomorrow, bringing together top teams from around the world for a unique event over the next few weeks.

It`s an interesting mix of participants. Many clubs are continental champions from 2021-2024, including UEFA Champions League giants like Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Chelsea, alongside other major European names like 2025 winner PSG.

Beyond Europe, the tournament features champions from Asia, Africa, North/Central America and the Caribbean, South America, and Oceania. Even Lionel Messi`s Inter Miami team qualified because the United States is hosting and they won the 2024 MLS Supporters` Shield.

This tournament offers a chance to see many stars playing for their new teams for the first time, like Trent Alexander-Arnold potentially in a Real Madrid shirt, and features numerous star-studded rosters. Additionally, several stadiums will get another World Cup trial run after hosting matches during last summer`s Copa America.
