EEVZA Marks 20th Anniversary with Annual General Assembly in Riga

The Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA) successfully held its annual General Assembly in Riga this past weekend. The event was organized in close collaboration with and received significant support from the Volleyball Federation of Latvia.

Delegates from Armenia, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine participated in the meeting. They reviewed several important topics, including the championship calendars for 2025 and 2026, revisions to the Competition Regulations for both Volleyball and Beach Volleyball, the new EEVZA Empowerment Programme aimed at assisting member federations, the 2024 financial report, and the 2025 budget.

With recent changes in leadership within several federations, the assembly provided an opportunity to congratulate newly appointed or re-elected Presidents, including Arnis Tunte (Latvia), Darius Cerka (Lithuania), and Georgi Kartvelishvili (Georgia).

Furthermore, as EEVZA is marking its 20th anniversary this year, the meeting welcomed several honorary guests. Among them were Maris Pekalis (LAT), a key figure in the organization`s founding and its first President, and Atis Sausnitis, former President of the Latvian Volleyball Federation (now on its Management Board), whose substantial contributions aided in establishing and strengthening the zonal association.

Attendees were presented with a review of EEVZA`s first two decades by Secretary General Inara Brokane, featuring historical facts and figures shared by Mr. Pekalis. The delegates received commemorative gifts for the occasion and participated in an official lunch.
