Tournament Format: Round-Robin and Knockout Stages
This chess event is divided into two main parts:
Stage 1: Round-Robin
The first stage is a round-robin with rapid time control.
- Time control: 10 minutes per player with a 10-second increment per move.
- Format: A single round-robin tournament where each player plays against every other player once.
- Advancement: The top 8 players from this stage will proceed to the knockout stage.
- Placement Matches: Players ranked 9th through 12th will compete in placement matches to determine 9th to 12th positions. The 9th ranked player chooses their opponent from the 11th or 12th ranked players.
Schedule:
- Monday: 6 rounds
- Tuesday: 5 rounds
Stage 2: Knockout
The second stage is a knockout tournament with classical time control.
- Time control: 90 minutes per player with a 30-second increment per move.
- Format: A single-elimination knockout bracket.
- Pairings: Players ranked 1st to 4th in the round-robin stage will select their opponents from players ranked 5th to 8th.
Schedule:
- Quarterfinals: Wednesday and Thursday (1 game per day)
- Semifinals: Friday and Saturday (1 game per day)
- Finals: Sunday and Monday (1 game per day)
Knockout Stage Tie-breaks
In case of a tie in a knockout match, the winner will be decided by a series of tie-breakers:
- First, two rapid games (10 minutes + 10-second increment).
- If still tied, two blitz games (5 minutes + 2-second increment).
- If still tied, an Armageddon game:
- Base time: 5 minutes for White.
- Players bid for time to play as Black (Black has draw odds).
