Round 6 Highlights
The Grenke Freestyle Chess Open commenced on April 17th and will continue until April 21st at the Karlsruhe Convention Centre in Germany. This unique nine-round Swiss tournament is played under Freestyle Chess rules, which modifies the initial setup while maintaining standard castling rules.
Each round is conducted with a classical time control, providing 90 minutes for each player per game, with an additional 30 seconds added after each move. The event is a magnet for both leading chess professionals and ambitious amateurs, creating a competition that blends traditional chess with innovative gameplay.
Participants in the Grenke Chess Open, traditionally known for its classical chess format, are given the option to transition to the Freestyle event between rounds two and five. Importantly, players who switch formats retain their accumulated score, offering a distinctive chance to compete in both classical and Freestyle chess within the same tournament.
- Full pairings and standings are available on Chess-Results for Freestyle chess and Classical chess.
