Hockey World Rallies to Support Mark Scheifele After Father’s Passing: Over $30K Donated

Following the unexpected death of his father, Brad Scheifele, just before a key playoff game, Winnipeg Jets center Mark Scheifele has received overwhelming support from fans and the wider hockey community. The Winnipeg Jets` charitable foundation has collected over $30,000 in donations made in his father`s memory.

Despite the immense personal tragedy, Mark Scheifele demonstrated courage by playing in the crucial Game 6 against the Dallas Stars. He scored the Jets` only goal in a game they ultimately lost 2-1 in overtime, ending their playoff run. Following the game, players from both teams offered their support during the traditional handshake. Many fans chose to honor Brad Scheifele`s memory and support Mark by donating $55 – corresponding to Mark`s jersey number – to the True North Youth Foundation.

Krista Sinaisky, a spokesperson for True North Sports + Entertainment, confirmed via email that the total amount raised through these $55 donations exceeded $30,000.

A wonderful outpouring of support from the hockey community on a very tough day for the Jets family, our True North Youth Foundation is extremely grateful.

Support has also extended to KidSport Canada, another organization that Scheifele champions. Demonstrating remarkable sportsmanship, fans of the opposing Dallas Stars have also contributed to these charitable efforts, showing goodwill in light of the circumstances and acknowledging Scheifele`s resilience.

Dallas Stars coach Peter DeBoer commented on Scheifele`s performance after the game, saying, “Just courageous what he did tonight. I`m sure his dad would`ve been really proud of him and what he did, and I`m sure his dad would`ve wanted him there. Tough night for him and anybody in the hockey world that has been in a situation like that. Hats off to him. A courageous young man.”

Following the conclusion of the Jets` season, General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff stated that the team organization is committed to providing full support to Scheifele during this difficult time.
