Jake Sendler: Young MMA Star Dies After Gruelling Workouts

MMA fighter Jake Sendler tragically passed away at the young age of 21. He unknowingly suffered from a serious muscle condition.

After a fight in Melbourne on March 3rd, Sendler was urgently taken to the hospital and put into a medically induced coma.

Despite undergoing several surgeries and blood transfusions, doctors were unable to save him.

It was discovered that Sendler had been suffering from rhabdomyolysis. This condition causes muscle breakdown due to excessive physical strain, underlying health issues, or injury.

The breakdown of muscle fibers releases toxins into the bloodstream, which can lead to kidney failure.

Reportedly, Sendler had to lose a dangerous amount of weight before his last fight.

Someone involved in the fight industry mentioned to the Herald Sun that Sendler told training partners he still needed to lose five to six kilograms just two days before the fight. This was a significant portion of his body weight to lose in such a short time, considering he usually weighed around 75kg.

Sendler`s mother, Sharone, remembered her son as a “warrior” after his untimely death.

She stated, “Jake was truly a warrior, an exceptional young man. He would not want anyone else to experience this.”

She added, “Our message is to pay attention to your body, but never stop striving for greatness and pursuing your aspirations.”

Sharone explained that Sendler had experienced muscle pain and dark urine leading up to his final fight, both symptoms of rhabdomyolysis.

She continued, “Because Jake was so dedicated, he attributed these symptoms to overtraining.”

“He entered the ring and gave it his all, unaware that his body was already struggling.”

“We now know that his body was already failing, and his kidneys were functioning at only 40 percent. Yet, he fought for three rounds.”

A GoFundMe page has been created to support Sendler`s family with funeral expenses and to raise awareness about rhabdomyolysis.

A message on the page from his loved ones reads: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce Jake`s passing. Jake was not only a fighter in MMA but a true warrior in every aspect of life.”

“As a devoted athlete, caring coach, cherished son, brother, and friend, Jake’s kind heart, vibrant energy, and unwavering support profoundly impacted everyone he knew.”

“Whether training with his team, enjoying nature, fishing, or relaxing at the beach, Jake`s infectious positivity lifted everyone around him. He selflessly dedicated himself to others, embodying both strength and compassion.”

“Unbeknownst to Jake, he was battling rhabdomyolysis (“rhabdo”), a life-threatening condition caused by extreme muscle damage, releasing harmful toxins into the body.”

“While preparing for a fight, Jake unknowingly ignored worsening symptoms. He continued to train, work, and coach, unaware that his body was shutting down.”

“Remarkably, even with failing organs, Jake bravely stepped into the ring for one last fight, displaying incredible determination and resilience.”

“Immediately after, his condition rapidly worsened, leading to emergency hospitalisation and multi-organ failure—the most severe case of rhabdo doctors had ever seen.”

“Despite extensive medical intervention, including multiple surgeries and blood transfusions, Jake passed away after days of fighting with incredible courage.”

“Although his physical body gave in, his indomitable spirit will live on forever.”
