Edmonton Oilers blueliner Jake Walman has been assessed fines for a pair of violations that occurred during Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.
The NHL Department of Player Safety issued Walman a $5,000 fine for roughing against Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk. Walman was observed throwing several punches towards Tkachuk amidst a scrum in front of the Panthers` net.
The Oilers defenseman also received an additional $5,000 penalty for an incident of unsportsmanlike conduct involving the Panthers bench. Walman was seen squirting a water bottle over the glass in the direction of the opposing team`s bench late in the second period.
Walman accumulated six penalty minutes throughout Game 3 and finished the contest without recording a point, marking his first point-less game of the series.
Monday`s game was characterized by significant physicality, with a combined total of 140 penalty minutes handed out to both the Oilers and Panthers. A large line brawl erupted midway through the second period, resulting in misconduct penalties for six players, including Sam Bennett, Mattias Ekholm, and Darnell Nurse.
The Panthers leveraged their depth to take control of the game from the opening face-off, ultimately securing a commanding 6-1 victory. Among the players contributing to the Panthers` offense was Brad Marchand, who found the back of the net for the third time in the Stanley Cup Final.
