Poll: Most Americans HATE Sanctuary Cities
A new poll shows that an overwhelming majority of Americans are opposed to sanctuary cities.
The Hillreports that a Harvard-Harris online survey from February 11-13 found that 80 percent of Americans believe that cities should be forced to hand over illegals to the federal government when they commit crimes.
The poll also found that 52 percent support President Donald Trump's executive orders that de-fund sanctuary cities, start building the wall and add 10,000 more immigration officers.
Additionally, 53 percent support Trump's executive order restricting travel from seven Islamic countries. When it came to the federal courts striking down the executive order, 38 percent felt that it would put the country at risk of further terror attacks, while 36 percent didn't feel like there would be any consequences from it and 26 percent said that striking down Trump's executive order actually protected the country more effectively.
Despite these indications of a tough mindset on immigration, the majority of Americans oppose the wall altogether, 53 percent to 47 percent, and 77 percent support some form of amnesty.
"The public wants honest immigrants treated fairly and those who commit crimes deported and that's very clear from the data," Harvard–Harris co-director Mark Penn toldThe Hill. He was later quoted as saying that Americans "want a mix of compassion, strong borders."
"They see ISIS as the greatest threat to the country and that is spurring concerns about refugee migration,"said Penn.
These findings are in line with a Politico/Morning Consult poll from earlier this month that found that 55 percent of Americans support Trump's executive order on de-funding sanctuary cities. It's not hard to see why, as sanctuary cities have become magnets for illegals that commit heinous crimes and hampers local law enforcement.
