Intelligence Chiefs say NO Evidence of Trump-Russia Connection

Former acting CIA Director and Hillary Clinton supporter Michael Morrell told an audience at an event for the intelligence website Cipher Brief that there was simply no evidence whatsoever to connect President Trump to the Russian government.

Morrell wrote an op-ed for the New York Times back in August where he both announced his support for Hillary Clinton and argued that Trump was a puppet of Vladimir Putin, “In the intelligence business, we would say that Mr. Putin had recruited Mr. Trump as an unwitting agent of the Russian Federation.” However, he’s now changed his tune and believes that Mr. Trump is not only innocent of any collaboration with Russia but he further argued that the “Trump dossier” released a few months ago is likely a fraud.

Morell, who was in line to become CIA director if Clinton won, said he had seen no evidence that Trump associates cooperated with Russians. He also raised questions about the dossier written by a former British intelligence officer, which alleged a conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia…

Morell said he had learned that the former officer, Christopher Steele, paid his key Russian sources, and interviewed them through intermediaries.

“On the question of the Trump campaign conspiring with the Russians here, there is smoke, but there is no fire, at all,” Morell said at an event sponsored by the Cipher Brief, an intelligence web site.

There’s no little campfire, there’s no little candle, there’s no spark. And there’s a lot of people looking for it.

Morell also mentioned the fact that former Obama Director of National Intelligence James Clapper also argued that there was simply NO EVIDENCE that President Trump or his team had acted in concert with the Russian government.

Clapper then went on to say that to his knowledge there was “no evidence” of “collusion between members of the Trump campaign and the Russians.”

“We did not include any evidence in our report – and I say ‘our,’ that’s NSA, FBI and CIA, with my office, the Director of National Intelligence – that had anything, that had any reflection of collusion between members of the Trump campaign and the Russians. There was no evidence of that included in our report.”

“I understand that,” said interviewer Chuck Todd. “But does it exist?”

“Not to my knowledge.”

“If it existed, it would have been in this report?”

“This could have unfolded or become available in the time since I left the government.,” Clapper replied, “but at the time I – we had no evidence of such collusion.”

Clapper’s assertion that as of January 20th, the day he stepped down, no evidence had been discovered linking Trump to the Russians was quite compelling for Morrell. The former CIA chief now says that while Russia did undertake a subversive attack on our election process, he doesn’t believe that the Trump team had anything to do with it.

Morell said Wednesday that he continues to believe that the Russian campaign of hacking, leaking and fake news, which the CIA says was designed to hurt Clinton and help Trump, was a hugely consequential action to which the U.S. has not sufficiently responded.
Putin, he said, has suffered no consequence for his unprecedented interference in the U.S. election.

This has never happened before in American history on this scale, never not even close. And Putin did not pay any price for this — nothing, zero.

So, when will the media decide to hold Democrats accountable for continuing to argue that Trump somehow collaborated with the Russians? Obama’s DNI, and Clinton’s handpicked CIA chief both say that there is no evidence of such collusion… but Democrats like Jen Psaki, Keith Ellison, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters and many others, continue to argue that the President must have committed treason.
