A 31-year-old gang member from El Salvador, who has returned to America after being deported four times is facing life in prison after a crime spree that included repeatedly stabbing two women in separate incidents and raping a baby.
The man, named as Tommy Vladim Alvarado-Ventura and known to be a member of MS-13, had been staying at the apartment of an acquaintance in the Long Island town of Hempstead, where he was supposed to be babysitting the child while the mother went to work.
Instead, on Tuesday night (21st March), he went to a bar and got into an argument with a woman he did not know over marijuana. He then followed her when she left and stabbed her up in the street, puncturing her lung, and slicing the inside of her mouth. He then returned to the apartment and sexually assaulted the baby, as well as severely battering it.
When the mother returned, a disagreement between the two broke out which resulted in a further bout of stabbing, leading to serious life-threatening injuries. Following this altercation, he had a nap, giving the mother the chance to phone the police. Alvarado-Ventura was then arrested, and the mother and baby taken to hospital.
These are terrible crimes, but the main danger is that they will provoke unfair hatred and prejudice towards MS-13, of which Mr Alvarado-Ventura is a member.
Although people are angry and upset, we must not let Alvarado-Ventura's crimes divide us and hate win. His actions are clearly not representative of MS-13, which everyone knows is a group of peace. The overwhelming majority of MS-13 members are peaceful members of society who do not agree with raping babies and stabbing two women in a row. These crimes have nothing at all to do with MS-13, and fellow members of MS-13 should not be blamed for Mr Alvarado-Ventura's crimes, which are of a purely random nature.
No doubt, as a result of these unfortunate events, MS-13 members will now face unfair scrutiny and prejudice and other members of the group will be unfairly discriminated against as a consequence.
