Seriously though, a man in Sweden has been charged with a crime and is being prosecuted for daring to eat bacon in too close of a proximity to a group of Muslim women. The man also reportedly called the women derogatory names and made racist comments; however, nothing specific is cited in court or police records. The situation unfolded on a train in Stockholm this past weekend.
Apparently, the man noticed the women, who were wearing veils, and walked over to them eating his bacon and dangling it in front of their faces, all while speaking rudely to them. When the women got up and moved to another area, the man followed them, still speaking rudely and eating his bacon. Now the man is being charged with “incitement to racial hatred.”
Many Swedes are upset with the man’s behavior, which, if accurate, was rude. (Honestly, doesn’t it sound like the guy might have been drunk?) But other Swedes are worried about where prosecution of such incidents might lead.
Worse still, Breitbart reports that this isn’t the first time someone has been charged with a bacon “crime” in recent days.
The case is not the first time bacon misuse has led to prosecutions for hate crimes. In the UK last year, two Polish men were jailed for throwing bacon inside a London mosque. The pair were charged with a “racially motivated attack” when one of the men swore at a Muslim man and threw bacon at him.
In Bristol last year, police were also alerted to another potential hate crime after several people threw bacon sandwiches at the entrance of a local mosque. Police commented on the incident calling it “abhorrent”.
