Notre Dame Students Turn Snowflake As Mike Pence Comes To Town
Notre Dame’s mascot, the Fighting Irishman, has been lambasted by the left for decades, citing its purported “cultural insensitivity”.
These are the same keyboard warriors who spend hours every day blasting the Washington Redskins, Atlanta Braves, and Cleveland Indians for their iconic and long storied monikers. These historical revisionists are being spurned on by some ridiculous leftist ethos that demands that people only be called “people”. These are the same twerps who post long, rambling mantras on their social media accounts at 11pm after being indoctrinated by Anderson Cooper regarding the bathrooms in North Carolina.
In other words: These folks need a hobby.
Now, the historic college in South Bend, Indiana has fallen victim to the plague of liberalism that has been sweeping the nation’s campuses. What “triggered” these student snowflakes of South Bend? A visit from the Vice President of the United States of America.
Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to deliver the commencement address at the University of Notre Dame.
But that’s not sitting well with some of the students, Campus Reform reports.
Students Immane Mondane and Jourdyhn Williams are agitating to cancel that invitation with a #NotMyCommencementSpeaker hashtag that will feature students holding white boards with ‘direct quotes from Pence that are racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, offensive, or ostracizing to members of our community.’
Campus Reform reports that the students add, ‘You may also write about why you feel unsafe with the presence of Mike Pence on our campus.’
This is why an ever-increasing number of Americans are becoming fed up with the liberal left. They can no longer maintain decorum in the face of disagreement. Instead, they hide behind ridiculous assertions that the Vice President’s visit makes you feel unsafe.
How exactly does the presence of the Secret Service on campus make you feel less safe?
Safety is one of those deliberately vague words, when it wants to be. Truly, no one in South Bend will be less safe with Pence in town, being monitored and protected by the most prolific security detail know to history. By it’s truest definition, safety will not suffer on campus.
But these liberals are using safety as a synonym for offended. What millennials are having a hard time understanding about the First Amendment is that it protects everyone’s right to speak how they feel. It does not now, nor has it ever, protected your ability to not hear it.
The price of this awe-inspiring and sacred freedom is that sometimes, you will be offended. You will be disagreed with. But that is what made Americans strong. We persevered due to the constant threat of adversity and disagreement that is inherent with free speech. We knew that our words would be challenged. We, as a people, would challenge each other to get it right. We would challenge our government to do what’s best for us via the press and our free speech.
Hiding behind the illusion of real fear, instead of admitting that you don’t like being disagreed with, is the most cowardly argument against the tenets of a free and sovereign nation that could possibly exist.
