Salome Melia to replace Lela Javakhishvili in Women’s GP India

Lela Javakhishvili from Georgia has unfortunately had to withdraw from the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix India due to personal reasons. Stepping in to take her place will be Salome Melia, also an International Master from Georgia. She is now confirmed to participate in this fifth stage of the Grand Prix series.

Hailing from Batumi, Georgia, Salome Melia has a strong chess background. She has twice won the European Under-18 Girls Championship and secured silver and bronze medals at the Women’s European Individual Chess Championship in 2013 and 2014 respectively. A two-time Georgian Women’s Champion, she has also proudly represented her nation in numerous Chess Olympiads and was part of the Georgian team that won gold at the 2015 Women’s World Team Championship.

The FIDE Women’s Grand Prix India is scheduled to be held from April 13th to 24th. With Salome Melia taking Lela Javakhishvili’s spot, the tournament is set to proceed.
