Held from July 10 to 14 at the picturesque Sea Breeze Hotel, this edition drew a record-breaking 536 players, underscoring the burgeoning enthusiasm for chess across the region.
A Legacy Forged in Strategy
Since its inception in 2011, the Dhamso International Chess Festival has cemented its position as a cornerstone of Sri Lanka`s chess calendar. Uniquely organized by the Old Boys’ Chess Association of Dharmasoka College, it remains the sole long-standing FIDE-rated tournament managed by a school-affiliated body in the country. This remarkable continuity, supported by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, the Asian Chess Federation, and FIDE, speaks volumes about the dedication of its organizers and the enduring appeal of the game.
The festival served as more than just a competition; it was a vibrant convergence of minds, from aspiring prodigies to seasoned strategists. The atmosphere was palpable with concentrated energy, as participants navigated the complex landscapes of 64 squares, each move a calculated whisper in the grand dialogue of a game where foresight reigns supreme.

Open Championship: Amarasinghe`s Undisputed Reign
In a performance that could only be described as a masterclass, CM A A C B Amarasinghe of Sri Lanka claimed the coveted Open Championship title, along with the prestigious DICF Player of the Year award. His journey to victory was near-flawless, securing an impressive 9 out of 10 points, with only two draws marring an otherwise perfect score. Amarasinghe`s triumph was a testament to consistent tactical precision and strategic depth, leaving little doubt as to his deserving ascension to the top.
The race for the runner-up positions was considerably tighter, adding a dramatic flair to the final rounds. A A H M B Senarathne secured the first runner-up spot with 8.5 points, prevailing in a fierce tie-break battle against multiple strong contenders. K G Wimalarathne and CM Kosala Sandeepa Chamikara Amarathunge also finished with 8.5 points, showcasing the high level of competition at the event.
Women`s Championship: Palliyage Emerges Victorious
