Washington Capitals Player Alexander Alexeyev Reportedly Pepper-Sprayed and Arrested After Altercation

According to a report by ARLnow, Washington Capitals defenseman Alexander Alexeyev was pepper-sprayed and taken into custody on Saturday. He faces a charge of public intoxication stemming from an alleged physical dispute with another individual outside a bar located in the Clarendon area of Arlington, Virginia.

Kiyah Daniell, a spokesperson for the Arlington County Police Department, informed ARLnow that police were alerted by a witness at 3:26 a.m. who observed a fight between two men near Big Tony`s Pizza on Clarendon Blvd.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers report that Alexeyev allegedly assaulted the other man involved in the incident. This action led police to deploy pepper spray on the Capitals defenseman.

Daniell stated, “Officers observed the male suspect engaged in a physical altercation with the other male. When officers approached, the suspect assaulted the other party, resulting in an officer deploying pepper spray during the arrest. The suspect received medical treatment at the scene for the effects of the pepper spray.”

Alexeyev was processed at the Arlington County jail shortly after the incident, being booked at 4:19 a.m. Saturday morning. He has since been released from custody.

The 25-year-old Alexeyev was a first-round selection by Washington in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. He first played in the NHL in 2021 and has appeared in a total of 80 games for the team.

Last season, Alexeyev played in eight regular-season games but did not record any points. However, he participated in all 10 of the Capitals` playoff contests. His current contract with Washington concludes this summer, making him eligible for restricted free agency.
